The second edition of the 2016 AEDC Employment Report, sponsored by First National Bank Alaska, has just been released.
The preliminary unemployment rate for Anchorage in March was 5.5 percent, down slightly from February, according to the latest report from the Anchorage Economic Development Corp. The year-to-date Anchorage unemployment rate remained at 5.6 percent. The numbers are above the national rate of 5.0 percent but well below the statewide rate of 7.3 percent.
The report’s employment estimate for March showed 154,500 jobs held in Anchorage, a decrease of 100 jobs YTD. The private sector has decreased by 400 jobs since last March year-to-date, while government employment has grown by 300.
