Today, held in the Boardroom of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, AEDC served as host to the Vietnam General Consul and local Anchorage business stakeholders. Ambassador Hoàng Anh Tuấn along with his wife Dr. Lê Thị Tuyết Mai, Special Appointee to the UN and WTO, and Deputy General Consul Ho Hương Giang, met with AEDC CEO & President Jon Bittner along with stakeholders to discuss an overview of Anchorage’s economy and identify companies with an interest in the Vietnamese and broader Southeast Asian markets. The meeting discussed trade and investment, energy and natural resources, logistics, seafood, tourism, technology, and connections between Anchorage companies and Vietnamese partners.

More About Ambassador Tuấn
Ambassador Hoàng Anh Tuấn is currently Consul General of Viet Nam Consulate General in San Francisco, California, the United States of America, for a 3-year term of service, starting from November 28th, 2022. Prior to assuming this position, Ambassador Tuan served various positions such as Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN for Political-Security Community and the Ambassador of Viet Nam to Indonesia and concurrently the non-resident Ambassador of Viet Nam to Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste.
Ambassador Tuan carries with him over 31 years of experience, serving various appointments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam both as a diplomat and a researcher. One of such appointments was the Minister Counselor position at the Embassy of Viet Nam in Washington D.C.
As a researcher, Dr Tuan has worked at various think-tanks around the world, including Norway, Denmark, Singapore and Sweden. He has published extensively on Viet Nam’s foreign policy; politics and security in Southeast Asia; U.S. and China’s policy towards East and Southeast Asia as well as major power relationship, particularly the Sino-US relations.
Ambassador Tuan obtained his PhD in International Relations and MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA under the Ford Foundation and Fulbright scholarships respectively.

More About US-Vietnam Economic Relations (2017-2021)
Since entry into force of the U.S.-Vietnam bilateral trade agreement in 2001, trade between the two countries and U.S. investment in Vietnam have grown dramatically. The U.S. and Vietnam have concluded a trade and investment framework agreement; they also have signed textile, air transport, and maritime agreements. U.S. exports to Vietnam include agricultural products, machinery, yarn/fabric, and vehicles. U.S. imports from Vietnam include apparel, footwear, furniture and bedding, agricultural products, seafood, and electrical machinery. U.S.-Vietnam bilateral trade has grown from $451 million in 1995 to nearly $52 billion in 2016. In 2016, Vietnam was America’s fastest growing export market. U.S. exports to Vietnam grew by 77 percent between 2014-2016. U.S. exports to Vietnam were worth over $10 billion in 2016, and U.S. imports in 2016 were worth $42 billion. U.S. investment in Vietnam has grown significantly over the past eight years to nearly $10 billion.

Vietnam Trade Summary
U.S. goods and services (exports plus imports) trade with Vietnam totaled an estimated $215.4 billion in 2025, up 39.1 percent ($60.5 billion) over 2024.
U.S. goods trade (exports plus imports) with Vietnam totaled an estimated $209.5 billion in 2025. U.S. goods exports to Vietnam in 2025 were $15.6 billion, up 19.4 percent ($2.5 billion) over 2024. U.S. goods imports from Vietnam totaled $193.9 billion in 2025, up 42.2 percent ($57.6 billion) from 2024. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Vietnam was $178.3 billion in 2025, a 44.6 percent increase ($55 billion) from 2024.
U.S. services trade (exports plus imports) with Vietnam totaled an estimated $5.9 billion in 2025. U.S. services exports to Vietnam in 2025 were $3.5 billion, down 2.3 percent ($81.0 million) from 2024. U.S. services imports from Vietnam in 2025 were $2.4 billion, up 25.3 percent ($483.0 million) from 2024. The U.S. services trade surplus with Vietnam was $1.1 billion in 2025, a 33.5 percent decrease ($563.0 million) from 2024.
