Anchorage Consumer Optimism Index: Q1 2024

The Anchorage Consumer Optimism Index is a survey of ~600 Anchorage residents using the Alaska Consumer Optimism Index survey tool.

The survey was performed by Alaska Survey Research and the report was generated by the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation. This work was made possible by the report sponsor, Furniture Enterprises of Alaska.

The index combines 3 components of consumer sentiment which are scored on a 100-point scale. Results above 50 indicate optimism and results below 50 indicate pessimism.

The Anchorage Consumer Optimism Index (ANCi) for January-March of 2024 was 41.9. That’s down from the first quarters of both 2023 and 2022

Personal financial confidence has reached an all-time low, after beginning to rebound in 2023. This could be due to a persistently high inflationary
environment, reducing consumers’ purchasing power.

Future expectations are nearing its all-time low of 32.2 (from Q3 2022). It rose in Q1 2023 before declining again, similar to local economy confidence.
