We compared 10 years of reports to find that the logistics sector; warehouse, transportation, utilities, etc, has grown 24%+ in Anchorage. Timely insight with the expansion of mega fulfillment providers like Amazon to the upcoming massive capital improvement projects at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and the Port of Alaska.

FEBRUARY HOT STREAK – Rebound Velocity

February may have been cold but the job increases were hot. Our employment report shows solid month-over-month employment growth localized in the private sector marketplace which included retail, professional business services like legal services, consulting, finance, marketing, technology, cybersecurity, education, and federal government employment. Better lines through TSA? Jobs rebounded out of the post-holiday seasonal drop-off quickly.

 MARCH Madness – Historic Low Unemployment Numbers
3.9% Unemployment Rate

March 2026 set a historic employment record. Formally recorded as the third-lowest March unemployment rate achieved by the city in 36 years. Construction showed a steady month-over-month increase in employment.

APRIL Showers of Employment Brings May Workers
+1,300 Seasonal Workforce Staff-Up

To hire the staff, you need the staff. Every single major industry category added job positions month-over-month. Every sector showed employment gains with the headliner being construction, adding over 400 jobs in one month. Also setting a new benchmark dating back to 2008. Increased gains were also seen in trade, transportation, utilities, and as expected food services and restaurants supporting summer tourism employment.
