AEDC urges support for local business
Community action will help local economy
Following recommended health guidelines to slow the spread of COVID-19, all bars, breweries, restaurants, food, beverage kiosks, trucks, and other establishments serving food within the State of Alaska have closed to dine-in services.
Anchorage Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) has moved swiftly to marshal support for Anchorage-based businesses, and is impressed by the response from retailers and restaurants as they adapt to this evolving situation, as well as that of the business sector across the city. Today, AEDC has published a directory of open restaurants available for take-out, delivery, and curbside service.
“AEDC is involved in every sector of the city and state’s economy,” said Bill Popp, AEDC President and CEO. “We’re working with leaders across the city to ensure businesses are supported and connected with every resource available to them.
“Anchorage is remote, but we are doing everything we can to prepare for what’s ahead. We have a strong, reliable broadband network, our businesses have been innovative and nimble, and I know we will get through this difficult time. These are uncertain times for all of us, but if you have the means, now is the time to get takeout, order delivery, buy a gift card – whatever you can do to support your favorite restaurants and local retailers.”
AEDC is also working with Edible Alaska on their “Support 907,” a webpage dedicated to listing Alaska businesses open despite the dine-in prohibition. Support 907 connects Alaskans to needed goods and services and guides them to local businesses who need their support.
“Alaskans are resilient and community-minded. Many businesses took immediate action to curb transmission while continuing to serve people in creative new ways. In turn, Alaskans are supporting the financial health of businesses they love during this crisis,” said Jeremy Pataky, Edible Alaska co-owner.
Both Support 907 and AEDC’s business list will be updated as additional information becomes available. While largely limited to restaurants, Edible Alaska hopes to expand Support 907 to include food-adjacent and other businesses.
