Anchorage Employment Report: May 2024

Year over year (YOY), from May 2023 to May 2024, Anchorage’s estimated labor force decreased by 546 and the overall unemployment rate decreased from 3.7% to 3.6%.

Month over month (MOM), between April and May 2024, there was a slight decrease of 487 employed persons.

In the month of May, the estimated Anchorage unemployment rate decreased to 3.6%, from 3.7% in April.

The industries that saw the highest number of jobs increases YOY included Leisure and Hospitality (900), Professional and Business Services (1,200 jobs), Education and Health Services (1,300 jobs), and Construction (1,900 jobs).

The sectors with the largest reduction in jobs were Trade, Transportation and Utilities with a loss of 500 jobs and the Retail sector with a loss of 300 jobs.
